Once again, Melbourne showed it's two-faced (four season's a day) weather, a windy 27 degrees.

So I decided to wear something that would allow my to breathe in the 27 degree heat, whilst keeping warm in the cold morning wind.

Also had an amazing lunch today at a place called 'Green Refectory', always thought it was called 'Illy' since it had a illy sign on the outside..

Due to the large number of customers, I knew their food was either cheap or delicious, or both!

 Here's my massive plate of lasagne which I couldn't finish, and for only $10 it was amazing! (especially the bread lol)

Valedictory Dinner

Spent a fabulous night with everyone from my year level on our valedictory/graduation night, which was also a great night to top off saying goodbye to everyone (except there were no tears this time, as most of us had cried our eyes out a few hours beforehand at school after the countdown)
Unlike most schools and their valedictory/graduation dinners where they are dressed in school uniform to graduate, we had a less formal formal (if you get what I mean) and every girl dressed up again just like for our formal earlier this year.
Personally, I think that graduating whilst in school uniform would have been better, because we would be seen as a united group of students graduating from school (which would also have decreased the fuss about who's wearing what dress and blah blah girl problems)

'my mouth was on fire'

Finally went to the city yesterday and caught up with Megu, and for some odd reason time passed really slowly.
Our first stop was Pepper Lunch, they opened their first store in Melbourne just a few weeks ago and already there's the Pepper Lunch rave going on instagram and related sites.  I ordered their beef one, which came on a sizzling hot plate with half cooked meat which you have to cook yourself by stirring it around until it's all cooked.
But beware my friends, there's quite a lot of pepper, it made me eat heaps faster since it's so hot; my mouth was on fire literally since I'm not too good with spicy foods (apart from kimchi which I can handle in moderate amounts)

And we had some yummy strawberry shaved ice to cool down that peppery hotness, from Dessert Story

Found my new favourite purikura machine at Photoplus, since Photoworld suddenly disappeared...This machine is exactly like the ones in Japan :3  Also won a free gift after playing a matching game at the end

Also picked up one of my favourite magazines (Popteen) and found another shop selling Popsister which has now been discontinued *cries* for only $7.  Hope they continue the Popsister series again sometime

Japan: Day 8 - Last day in Kyoto and Night bus to Tokyo

On a roll with my Japan trip posts now~  okay, so on to my last day in Kyoto the beautiful traditional city which was once the imperial capital of Japan.
For my last day in Kyoto, Emma took us to a highly recommended restaurant by her mum's co-workers.  Sadly I forgot what the restaurant was called, and didn't take a photo of it either (probably a bit sleepy) so I appologise for not being able to tell you which one it is, but I'm sure there are plenty more similar traditional-style restaurants around Japan :)
We each ordered a lunch set which were only around 1500円 each and suprisingly cheap for their quality, service and environment.  Mum and I both ordered this beef croquette thing, and Emma ordered this sashimi one.  The tempura with the sashimi set looked amazing, but I don't eat raw fish so there wasn't much point in getting it.  
Just the idea of eating a piece of raw fish meat just disgusts me, so I didn't have any sashimi in Japan, some of you may think I'm stupid for not having any amazing fresh raw fish in the land-of-sushi, but that's the way I roll, call me a picky eater if you want (and I'm not a big fan of heavily flavoured dishes either)

What made this restaurant different was that it was a traditional restaurant from the seating to interior design. At first I thought we had to sit cross-legged which would make my legs numb after long periods of sitting, but, the had a deep heated gap under the table where you could put your legs and make it look like you're sitting the proper way *cheat* whilst keeping your footsies warm

Must say that that restaurant's food was very pleasing for my stomach, and their miso soup was the red miso soup which was described by Emma as the more expensive flavoursome type of miso soup.

We then departed at the train station and went our own ways, as Emma had to get ready for her new school term and I had to prepare for my night bus ride to Tokyo.  I hope I can still catch up with her next time I go back to Japan :)

With the many night bus services that are provided around Japan, mum and I chose Willer's as it was recommeneded by my hairstylist Yoshi-san.  We could've caught the shinkasen to Tokyo but that would've costed around $150 each person each way (I think), and its more sensible to travel from one city to the other at night, and wake up in the morning at your new city, and even catch a glimpse of the sunrise too.

And when we woke up, we arrived in front of Shinjuku station, Tokyo after a very comfy night ride.  It was a very chilly foggy winter morning, and I was still somewhat half asleep when we got off the bus, so no sunrise/morning pictures of Shinjuku ;w;

After this post, it'll be about the places I visited in Tokyo such as Harajuku, Shibuya and Shinjuku so please wait for that.

Review: Guhng - The Palace

Had my 18th dinner party at this pure amazing-ness place, Guhng.  And this will be the story of my experience with the Korean barbeque place, Guhng (The Palace)...I'll try my best with the story part ><"
On a slightly rainy Sunday night in Melbourne, Lissy and her friends battled against the cold rain with minimal shelter along the streets in the city in order to arrive at their final destination Guhng.  They finally found Guhng - The Palace shining brightly at number 19 McKillop Street, Melbourne, 3000 admist the other gloomy restaurants which were closed that Sunday night.

As soon as Lissy saw the Guhng sign, she immediately rememberd back to the Goong (Princess Hours) drama sign, but she was too hungry to consult with her friends about the similarity.  So in she stepped into the four-leveled Korean barbeque palace.

Once everyone was seated, the tables magically filled with four colourful side dishes that consisted of kimchi, coleslaw with pasta, pickled pink radish (amazing) and pickled onion, along with three dipping sauces for the barbeque.

When the meat was ordered for the barbeque, waiteresses dressed in traditional Korean hanboks came to our service and helped us prepare the meat along with a 'magic mushroom' for each plate of meat (to help signify when the meat was ready), the waitresses also helped cut up and serve the meat, which made everyone feel like princesses :)

The two tables of nearly 20 girls enjoyed many plates of meat ranging from pork fillet and bulgogi to the famous ox tongue which is a must for Korean barbeque.

Didn't try any of the desserts as we had cake, but I'm sure they would be delicious as their mains were.  The extravagantly decorated Guhng was filled with amazing lights and wall features, and pipes that sucked the smoke out from the barbeque to ensure the air was not too stuffy from the barbeques.

Now back to real life, because I can no longer continue on with the story line and because I'm not too good with creative writing or essays.
Overall, it was a great experience as it was my first time having Korean barbeque, I'm not a food critic but everything suited my tastebubs so it was all very satisfying.  However their service may be a bit slow as dealing with many floors and tables of hungry customers (which is understandable), but I do think they should add on a few more vegetarian options since they only had around 4 vegetarian options which was limited for my vegetarian friend, so I give Guhng a 4.5/5.  But I'll definately be back next time Guhng!

It's also sort of on the pricey side with a meal at $25-$35 as stated by Urbanspoon here, but once you eat with a few friends, the price comes down :)  Then again, you get what you pay for~

Japan: Day 6 - Nishiki Market

Back to posts about my trip to Japan!
On day 6, Emma took us around Nishiki Market, a well known marketplace in downtown Kyoto which is famous for selling many of Kyoto's famous produce and goods, and many shops allow you to taste test their products before buying which is great as you will know what they taste like before you buy it; loved the pickled products like pickled umes and pickled radishes and these chewy sweet black beans, mum bought quite a lot from this market as they were all so delicious and fresh!

Next we went around Teramachi, which is a famous arcade located adjacent to Nishiki Market (sorry, forgot to take photos).  But we had and amazing lunch at Pomme's where I ordered this delicious half something and half carbonara I think omurice (omlete rice).

Around the corner they were rebuilding the fences, and I found their temporary fencing adorable!! Love the Japanese and their cute designs on anything possible.

Japan: Day 4 - Kyoto

Finally found some time to continue with my Japan trip posts. These few weeks I've been having SACs and assignments, so I was quite busy with school work.

It was our last day in Osaka as our next destination was Kyoto, so this post mostly will be on travelling to Kyoto. We took the train from the station nearest to our hotel to Osaka station, and from Osaka station we took the express train to Kyoto station.

and hello Kyoto, it's a massive station with JR lines, private lines, night buses, etc and many shopping centres and centered around Kyoto station.

Had lunch at Porta, which is a underground shopping arcade situated under Kyoto station, talk about space saving

After we shopped around the many shops in Porta, it was already dark outside even though it was only around 7pm.

Then we walked back to our ryokan which was just a 10 minute walk from the station.

Oriental Spoon

Had a birthday dinner last week at Oriental Spoon in the city, never been there myself but I've heard a few good reviews on it. Oriental Spoon is a Korean and Japanese restaurant situated really close to the State Library, when we arrived the restaurant was nearly full (but we booked before hand so we were safe) quite a lot people even had to wait outside; definitely signifies a great restaurant.

The 12 of us ordered food a range of food, from dumplings to bulgogi and the food was delicious! And for some of you who think Korean cuisine only consists of spicy things, the beef we had was actually sweet!
After eating delicious food, we headed down to the State library to give Kelly her present; which she was amazed with. Some of us stayed to watch the fireworks at the Moomba festival, but I trained home with a few friends.



Not to forget my hilarious train ride to the city. On my carriage there was a lady with a dog pram, thought these only exists in Asia but I was wrong.

When the lady got off the train, an old man got on the train with the happiest smile I've ever seen on an old man, and told the ones around him 'I guess she's taking the fur kids for a walk', haha this made everyone in the carriage laugh.

I'll try to update more often, but I'm in my last year of high school so sometimes I have heavy work loads, so thanks for understanding~
